“Varahi”

Goddess Varahi is one of the seven mother goddesses or Sapta Matrikas. Goddess Varahi takes her name from Varaha – one of the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu. She has same weapons and ornaments as Varaha. Some scholars and texts are also of the view that Varahi is Lord Yama’s energy.

Varahi is often depicted with having the face of a boar and her skin complexion is that of the storm cloud. She is sometimes depicted as four armed. Some times as two-armed and is shown holding Hala (plough) and Sakti. She is shown as sitting under a Kalpaka Tree. Goddess Varahi has elephant as her Vahana or vehicle.

In some rare sculptures Varahi is shown as having six hands in four she carries Danda, Khetaka, Khadga and Pasa. Two hands are in Abhaya and Varada Mudra.

In some images she is shown as carrying Dhanusa, Hala and musula as her weapon.
